Nezih Suyaran, the CEO of ÖÇP and General Manager of DLG Fuarcılık says, “What we aim is to increase the level of competition in agricultural sector so that farmers are provided with seed, plant protection agents and fertilizers with more economical prices. For example, we, as the cooperative, have initiated canola production in Turkey since 1997 and it resulted in a successful plantation of approximately 220.000 sqm. The advantage of canola is its low acid level, second best after sunflower seed oil. And Turkey has a high level of oil deficit, which results in large amounts of money for the import of it. In fact, we will be shaping agricultural policies in Turkey to. We offer an outdoor platform where trade and knowledge can be shared and farmers will be in one-on-one relationship with all those displayed at the site. And farmers believe what they see.”
Mr. Suyaran states that May is best time for such fairs and adds, “Agricultural fairs are generally held approximately one month before the harvesting season. This is the time when farmers make further decisions on next year’s product and how to sell it. Field Days 2010 have also a pioneering role in introducing innovative agricultural technology. For example, mini bio-gas plants that produce electrical energy using vegetative silage will be displayed in this fair. What makes this fair unique is its potential to steer future, exemplified and practiced knowledge, joining the providers and customers and its pioneering role in productivity realization in the countries where it is displayed. The Field Days proved to have increased a 12% more vegetative productivity in Germany where farmers’ awareness has increased. And with this fair in our country, our aim is to reach 10 % more productivity in Turkey.”
DLG-ÖÇP Field Days 2010 seems to promising a potential to make Turkey a regional center in agriculture. Detailed information can be obtained from www.tarlagunleri.com.
